The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), an agency of the Ministry of Health, launched its periodic report on the quality of seawater on the beaches of Mexico so that Mexicans know where they are and where not to go swimming.

The analysis reveals that 98.9 percent of these paradisiacal destinations are suitable for a good dip during the December holiday period, but there are three of them that exceed the limits of bacteria called enterococci.

According to the study by Cofepris, the Manzanillo, Icacos and Suave beaches – the three located in Acapulco, Guerrero – are the dirtiest in the country for containing more than 200 NPM per 100 milliliters of water.

-How was the analysis of the dirtiest beaches in Mexico?

According to a statement from this organization, a “laboratory analysis in seawater of 273 beaches, in 70 tourist destinations of the 17 coastal states of the country, was carried out and resulted in 269 being suitable for recreational use in this New Year’s holiday period. ”

Weeks prior to this high season, more than 1,800 seawater samples were collected and studied to monitor the levels of “Enterococcus faecalis”, bacteria that can cause serious urinary infections, as well as sepsis, endocarditis, and others.

-List of clean and not-so-clean Mexican beaches

In this list of Cofepris you will know which are the beaches suitable for recreational activity and also which are not. You will find them divided by state.

For example, some of the most famous beaches in Mexico contain the following bacteriological quality (remember that those that pass 200 NPM per 100 milliliters of water are on red alert). The analyzes consulted were made between the end of November and mid-December and between November 29 and December 12.

– Maruata, in Michoacán: 10 NMP / 100 ml

– Sayulita, in Riviera Nayarit: 15 NMP / 100 ml

In the area of La Paz, in Baja California Sur, Playa Pichilingue has 10 NMP / 100 ml. The Malecon II and III beaches and Los Barriles beaches are the most contaminated with 104, 147 and 106 NMP / 100 ml, respectively, although all are qualified as suitable for swimming.

In the area of Los Cabos, the bactereological quality of the Chilean beach is 22 NMP / 100 ml, that of Palmilla is 108.
