Mexico is one of the countries that treat women the worst in areas such as security, gender violence, economic inequality and access to health, among others, indicate international reports and study centers consulted by EL UNIVERSAL.
Regarding economic, social and political inclusion, justice and security, the Womentown, Peace and Security Index 2019/20 of the Georgetown Institute places Mexico at position 103 of 167, even below Venezuela and Nicaragua.
The US News & World Report 2019, an American publication specializing in education and health, showed that the nation placed 60th out of 80 in the ranking of the best countries to be a woman.
According to data from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), 760 femicides were registered in Mexico in 2017 and 898 in 2018.
In the country, 63% of women over 15 have been victims of violence, indicates the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The organizations consulted also point out the lag in terms of gender equality, equitable remuneration for work, sexual and reproductive rights, female participation in politics, as well as the lack of quality health services.
UN Women points out that there is a gap in the implementation of laws and programs on the rights of that population.
