The Spring and the Peace Fair will take place from April 9 to 16, 2023

San Cristóbal de las Casas is preparing to celebrate the city’s main Festival, the Spring and Peace Fair, which will take place from April 9 to 16, 2023. This traditional event, which has been held since 1868, it was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, but this year it will resume with great enthusiasm.

During Holy Week, the colonial city expects to receive national and international tourists who will also be able to enjoy the fair. The event will take place in the southern area of San Cristóbal, between the La Coleta bullring and the municipal DIF, and will feature thousands of merchants, games and attractions from different states of the republic.

The queen of the fair will be crowned on April 9, after Holy Week, and a procession with floats full of flowers will take place through the main streets of the city. The queen will be chosen by the municipal president and the council instead of through contests, as was done before.

The local authorities have not yet announced when the coordinator of the fair will be appointed, but it is expected that it will take place through an extraordinary session of the council. The amount that will be invested in the fair will also be announced and the names of the artists who will entertain at the Teatro del Pueblo and other cultural, sporting and bullfighting events will be presented.

Although spring officially begins on March 21, the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Festival will take place in April, from 9 to 16, and promises to be a great event that will attract thousands of visitors.
