Mariano Díaz Ochoa, municipal president of San Cristóbal de las Casas, resigned from the ranks of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) with which he assumed the local government, after arguing that “this is convenient” for his “personal political interests”.

The politician said at a press conference that for the moment he will not join any party and that he will remain independent, once he submitted his resignation on Wednesday afternoon in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

He thanked the president of the PVEM, the federal deputy Valeria Santiago, and the also federal legislator, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, because “he was the one who invited me to participate in the 2021 contest.”

The mayor will continue to work without a party for San Cristóbal de las Casas. “My only party now is going to be San Cristóbal de Las Casas,” he said.

With this commitment, “we are going to continue working for San Cristóbal de Las Casas, very strengthened,” emphasized Mariano Díaz, who governs that city in Los Altos de Chiapas for the third time, the first two times he did so with the colors of the PRI.

The mayor, who was until Wednesday president of the PVEM board, said that there have been no reactions in the party to his resignation.

That is to say, “everyone has the right to participate with their free will, mine was to resign from the Green Party” which he thanked because “he helped me in my career to become municipal president of San Cristóbal de las Casas”.
