San Cristóbal de Las Casas.- Sympathizers and adherents of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), the National Indigenous Congress (CNI), non-governmental organizations, attend the National Meeting: “The South Resists 2023”, which is taking place on Zapatista land in the Caracol Jacinto Canek, on the outskirts of San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
The foregoing was inaugurated this Saturday with the presence of more than 500 people approximately. Support bases of the EZLN, CNI, among other national and international fighting organizations are present at this meeting, as well as the presence of observers of humans rights defenders.
Inside the hall are members of the caravan “El Sur Resiste 2023” from the Mexican southeast who visited the territories affected by the interconnected megaproject “Tren Maya”, and that in this meeting is to share the pains, hopes and articulation strategies outlined , to learn from the struggles of other geographies and continue weaving solidarity networks of resistance and planetary rebellions, “the mega project of the Mayan train is destroying the hills, mountains, trees, rivers, this is a damage to the environment” .
They said that it is time for them to listen to themselves and to point directly to those who are behind the causes of dispossession who live in the territories, as part of the program, there will be a moment of sharing the diverse struggles; However, probably there will not be enough time for everyone, and for this reason, they invite you to set up informative “stands” in which you can be together during recess periods, sharing your experience with the people who want it.
Finally, the organizers asked those who are in the meeting not to walk in the neighborhoods, streets, peripherals later than 9 at night and to protect collectively, during the International Meeting the consumption of alcohol and drugs will not be allowed nor will any type of harassment or violence within the Zapatista caracol.
