Oaxaca, Oax.- Two earthquakes, one of 5.1 with an epicenter in Cintalapa, Chiapas; and another of 5.9 in Unión Hidalgo, Oaxaca, were recorded this Thursday and activated the seismic alert in the Oaxacan capital.
So far, no material damage or injuries have been reported.
However, the tremors caused people to abandon their homes and the stores where they were.
Tourists who were in restaurants in the Oaxacan Zócalo had to leave at the sound of the seismic alert.
According to the National Seismological Service (SSN), both tremors occurred simultaneously.
“We had to leave our house, because we felt it very strongly, fortunately there was no damage to regret, just a great scare,” said residents of Unión Hidalgo.
In 2017, six years ago, an 8.2 magnitude earthquake destroyed 70% of the homes in this Zapotec municipality.
