After the confrontation between alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel in the municipality of Chicomuselo, Chiapas, the inhabitants of the area report around 20 deaths due to the dispute between the criminal groups.
The events occurred since last January 4 and according to a report shared on the night of Sunday, January 7, there would be more than 20 deaths due to the confrontation and among them there would be two civilians.
The report denounces the lack of action by the authorities and even points out that the four-letter cartel would have control of the municipal seat through checkpoints and blockades.
“The Army, the National and State Guard do not fulfill their function of guaranteeing peace and security for the people who have demanded it so many times. The CJNG holds the municipal seat hostage with its checkpoints, dump trucks crossed over the roads, installation of surveillance and review booths for citizens”, appears in part of the statement
The confrontation, which according to journalistic reports would have lasted about seven hours, also caused panic among the inhabitants of the area, in addition to the fact that others were forced to leave their homes.
Since the beginning of January, recordings have circulated on social networks about the confrontation between the alleged members of criminal groups in Chicomuselo, where around 11:30 in the morning the dispute occurred between the alleged members of organized crime.
Due to the violence in the area, the inhabitants asked the authorities to attend to what is happening in the entity. The people who had to leave their homes were residents of the community of Nueva Morelia, according to the statement.
They even pointed out that last December an armed group, apparently members of the CJNG, would have been behind the eviction of the Limonar community. For its part, in a video shared on social networks by the Epicentro Noticias account, the detonations can be heard in which, according to the first reports, it was a confrontation at various points in Chiapas, including Chicomuselo.
In a report from March of last year by the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba), it can be read that in previous years the so-called “war on drugs” caused new forms of conflict in Chiapas.
And it is that since October of last year it was reported that the fight between the Sinaloa Cartel and the CJNG would have generated the displacement of more than 3 thousand people in Chiapas.
Chiapas is a relevant entity for criminal groups because it is an entity where narcotics from South America enter. For its part, the CJNG, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, as well as the Sinaloa Cartel, are the criminal groups that have the greatest presence in the country.
Another of the scenarios that accounts for the situation in which Chipas is located is a video that circulated in September 2023 and in which a convoy of trucks with armed subjects allegedly linked to the faction of Ismael El Mayo Zambada, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, could be seen.
On that occasion, the inhabitants would have cheered the armed men after they “liberated” a road section in the border region of La Trinitaria-Comitán and Trinitaria-Chamic.
“Arriba Sinaloa”, exclaim some civilians, while the subjects who were on board the trucks respond “Pure people of Mayo”.
