US Embassy in Mexico issues level 2 travel alert for citizens in Chiapas

The security alert includes the surroundings of the town of Ciudad Hidalgo, located on the border between Mexico and Guatemala

Through a statement, the US Embassy in Mexico City informed US citizens that due to recent security events, US government employees will not be able to travel to the town of Ciudad Hidalgo.

The security alert includes the surroundings of the town within a radius of up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), located in the southern part of the state of Chiapas along the border between Mexico and Guatemala.

The State Department’s travel warning for Chiapas is Level 2 and the embassy recommends exercising increased caution due to crime.
