On Friday, June 28, police officers from the municipality of Huimanguillo, Tabasco, fell victim to the violence in the border between Tabasco and Chiapas. In an armed confrontation, three officers lost their lives, two were injured, and one remains missing, presumably abducted by the same attackers.
The incident occurred in the community of “El Limoncito,” a region connecting the municipalities of Reforma and Huimanguillo, situated on the border between the states of Chiapas and Tabasco.
According to initial reports, the assailants were traveling from Chiapas to Huimanguillo in a vehicle. During a routine inspection, the municipal officers attempted to stop them, but the armed men opened fire, killing two officers inside patrol car 113 and another on the road.
The bodies of the officers were found—one in the front passenger seat and the other two in the rear of the police vehicle. All three had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to provide initial aid to the injured officers. Two critically wounded officers were urgently transported to a regional hospital for medical attention.
The fallen officers were identified as Lenin Martínez Romero, Fortín Nieto Arenas, and Vicente Hernández García. The attackers also seized their firearms.
In response to the attack, security forces have implemented an operation in the area. The Tabasco and Chiapas State Police, along with federal forces—including the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense—are involved.
