A local judge ordered the eviction of families living in the 5 de Marzo neighborhood of San Cristóbal, whose houses were built on land taken in 1994, denounced the president of the colonists, Carmen Guillén Méndez.

She said that on June 27, an attorney was presented with the eviction order for two families, but the neighbors prevented it because they are in negotiations with authorities at three levels and with Adrián Marenco Olavarrieta, legal representative of the Molino de la Alborada Real Estate Agency, S.A. de C.V., which claims the land, in order to obtain the corresponding deeds, since they are willing to pay.

“We demand the cessation of harassment through the real estate agency in complicity with the judges. There are 12 minutes signed by the real estate agency and by the authorities at three levels with the neighborhood,” in which more than 4,000 people live, she added in a press conference.

Guillén Méndez said that through dialogue with the federal government, “we have already achieved the regularization of the colony, so we are no longer invaders. They have also already given us the change of land use in the Municipal Directorate of Urban Development.”

He reiterated: “We want them to respect us and for the lands to be registered, as well as for the harassment of the 5 de Marzo colony to cease for those of us who are seeking legal registration, with legal certainty.”

He pointed out that “for the moment, the attorney, who arrived accompanied by municipal police, presented two eviction notices, but there are 240 people who were deceived in 2010 and signed the positive pre-registration documents out of ignorance, which is now used to intimidate them.”

He insisted that “the lands have already been regularized and are suitable for the construction of houses. In the next few days we will travel to Mexico City to denounce the harassment we have suffered.”

Nicolás Gómez Velasco said that after the public denunciation of acts of corruption made by the settlers last week during the visit of the Minister of the Supreme Court of the Nation, Lenia Batres, “the persecution against environmentalists” increased, including Guillén Méndez and himself, who defend the wetlands of San Cristóbal.
