There are already trips from Veracruz to Chiapas on the Interoceanic Train; here’s what we know

On the morning of last Friday, federal authorities announced that the FA Line of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Train has been enabled for passenger and cargo transportation.

The second line of the passenger and cargo train of the Interoceanic Railway of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec began operations this Friday, September 13. From this day on, you can travel from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz to Palenque, Chiapas for less than 400 pesos.

The Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is one of the most important projects of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government, aiming to connect Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco through railways for passenger and cargo travel.

On December 22, 2023, the first line called Line Z was inaugurated, which has 212 kilometers of track and runs from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, and vice versa, at least three times a week. This project consists of two more lines: Line K and Line FA, the latter of which has now entered operations.

Line “K” runs through the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, with 472 kilometers of railway. In the future, it is planned to connect with the neighboring country of Guatemala, but it is not yet enabled.

Through the official networks of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, it was informed that the new railway line that will transport passengers and cargo from one entity to another is now enabled, thus achieving the connection between four federal entities in the south of the country.

FA Line of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Train

On the morning of this Friday, federal authorities announced that the FA Line of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Train has been enabled for passenger and cargo transportation. This new line runs through the states of Veracruz, Tabasco, and Chiapas with a total of 310 kilometers of railway.

According to official information, this line will bring the southeast of the country closer to the Yucatan Peninsula and will connect the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway with the Maya Train, in addition to the connection to the 2 Bocas Refinery in Roberto Ayala – Tabasco.

Currently, it has 7 stations, starting from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and passing through the stations of Cuichapa; Las Choapas; Roberto Ayala; Juárez; Teapa; Pino Suárez, and Pakal Ná in Palenque, Chiapas, or vice versa. Additionally, it has the capacity to transport up to 350 passengers and 260 containers per trip.

How to get your Interoceanic Train tickets?

Currently, there are two ways to purchase your passenger ticket for the Interoceanic Train, either from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, or now, from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to Palenque, Chiapas, in both cases, the trips can be made in reverse.

You can also do it from your cell phone through the “FERROCARRIL INTEROCEÁNICO” application where you must follow the same procedure but in the palm of your hand.

Currently, a trip per person from Coatzacoalcos to Palenque, Chiapas, costs:

– Tourist class: 492 pesos

– Executive class: 652 pesos

Senior citizens, students, teachers, people with disabilities, and children aged 4 to 10 years will pay only 50 percent of the ticket cost in either class.
