As planned, this Friday morning, October 11, about 200 teachers from the Indigenous Education Level of the Regional Coordinator of the Highlands of Chiapas, of the National Union of Education Workers (NEI-CRACH-SNTE), gathered on the San Cristóbal Tuxtla Gutiérrez toll road, where they set up a roadblock at the site.

The indigenous teachers set up the roadblock after 10 a.m. at kilometer 46, to demand the installation of a negotiating table between officials from the Secretariat of Education in Chiapas and a commission of teachers from the Indigenous Education Level to discuss the issue of the teaching problem, one of which is the hiring of teachers for different educational institutions in communities in the Highlands of Chiapas region, construction of schools, payment of salaries to interim teachers that have been overdue for more than 3 years, among other problems that seem to be facing the indigenous teaching profession.

They are taking a break! Teachers lift indefinite strike in Tuxtla
This lifting of the sit-in marks a temporary respite for the capital of Chiapas, although the situation remains tense and the effects of the protests will continue to be felt in the city
At the point of the road blockade, they detained vehicles from national companies, crossing in the middle of the asphalt to prevent vehicular traffic, while some small vehicles returned to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, others took alternate routes to reach San Cristóbal de las Casas, so motorists looked for alternate routes to reach the two cities.

The teachers have indicated that this blockade is total and could be lifted by 4 pm on this same day. They hope to be called to a meeting in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez to follow up and find a solution to their demands. Meanwhile, the nearly 200 teachers will remain in the road blockade at kilometer 46 of the San Cristóbal-Tuxtla Gutiérrez toll road.
