Authorities in Chiapas and Guatemala are conducting a joint investigation to locate three Guatemalans who disappeared while traveling to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, security sources reported.
Porfirio Adalberto Dávila Romero, César Augusto Hernández Lemus, and Jeremías Eliceo Lemus Paredes traveled in search of work and have not been heard from since March 31.
The Guatemalans were last located in downtown Tapachula while traveling to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, according to a complaint filed by family members with the Chiapas Attorney General’s Office, which issued missing persons records through the program “Has visto?” (Have you seen?).
The family members requested that the Guatemalan consulate intervene to influence and pressure Mexican authorities to expedite the investigation and locate their compatriots.
The diplomatic representation in Tapachula is monitoring the case. As part of consular protection measures, the appropriate complaints and proceedings were filed.
In an informational note, the consular representation indicated that to date, no positive results have been obtained regarding the location of its nationals.
The consulate is in communication with the Guatemalan consular network in Chiapas and with the Mexican authorities to follow up on these disappearances.
