The Attorney General of Chiapas, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, reported that at least four leaders of the Corn Cartel have Interpol red cards, which Guatemalan authorities can use to help locate and arrest.
In a press conference, Llaven Abarca identified Vladmir “N” and Noé “N” as the two main leaders of this criminal organization in the Sierra region, currently residing in the neighboring country.
“We have been requesting the cards from Interpol Mexico for over a month so that they can do the same with our counterparts in Guatemala, so we can arrest them and bring them here to face justice for everything they did,” he stated.
The prosecutor also reported that there are more than 50 arrest warrants pending execution against perpetrators of violence. Seven additional arrests have been made, and 127 defendants have been prosecuted for having committed violent acts and being linked to the Corn Cartel in the Sierra region of Chiapas.
In this regard, he stated that for this reason, no Chiapas family has any reason to be forcibly displaced due to violence.
Therefore, he declared that those who have moved to Guatemala in recent months are relatives of members of the criminal group and that they are not citizens fleeing violence.
“The majority of the families who are emigrating, moving to Guatemala, are relatives of these people we are looking for. Why? Because these people who have arrest warrants are residing in the neighboring country of Guatemala. They are sheltered, living there, and their relatives are going there,” he stated.
Llavan Abarca said that the Corn Cartel posed as a peasant organization and was dedicated to collecting property taxes and had a corruption network in the Sierra region of Chiapas.
