Sixteen members of the Chilón Municipal Police in Chiapas were arrested for their probable responsibility in the crime of prison evasion after freeing a suspect captured by state agents.

According to the Chiapas State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), municipal police intercepted the convoy in which state security forces were transporting Israel “N”—arrested for gang membership and attacks on communication routes—to be taken into custody by the judicial authority in the municipality of Ocosingo.

The incident occurred near the Bachajón-Sitalá intersection, where officers from the Chilón Municipal Police blocked the road with official vehicles.

Due to the blockade, they aggressively forced the arresting officers to disembark and illegally released the detainee.

Having captured Israel “N,” they placed him in a municipal patrol car and took him to an unknown destination.

In response to the events, the state police requested support from members of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force and the National Guard (GN), which enabled the arrest of the municipal officers.

The FGE (Federal Executive Branch) detailed that the sixteen detainees were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to continue the investigation and determine their legal status.

This incident follows the arrest of the director of the Municipal Police of Cintalapa, Chiapas, identified as Ulber “N,” as well as 58 officers for their alleged involvement in the crimes of criminal association and misuse of insignia.

The FGE reported that the arrest of the officers and their director took place after six searches of properties in Cintalapa and Jiquipilas, in coordination with the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force, the Secretariat of Public Security, the National Guard (GN), and the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense).

During the operations, authorities seized a 9mm firearm with a magazine and 16 live rounds, two AK-47-style long guns with two magazines and 16 7.62mm caliber rounds, seven vehicles with Chiapas license plates and one from Mexico City, as well as a Vento motorcycle, a 2020 model ATV, and a Jaguar.

The feline was rescued and transferred to the Miguel Álvarez del Toro Zoo (ZooMAT) with support from the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection and the Ministry of National Defense.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine their legal status.
