Chiapas is burning: vehicle burning and clashes unleash chaos in three municipalities.

Chiapas has experienced a day of violence since Monday morning, due to the burning of vehicles, roadblocks, and even a confrontation as part of an operation carried out by authorities. So far, there are no official reports of injuries or casualties.

As a result of an operation carried out in the municipalities of Arriaga, Cintalapa, and Jiquipilas, organized crime groups burned vehicles on the Tuxtla Gutiérrez-Arriaga highway. At least four vehicles were damaged, three were set on fire, and the other was overturned.

Another two vehicles were burned in the municipality of Villaflores, on the stretch of highway leading to Ocozocuautla. All of this is part of the actions carried out by members of criminal groups to impede the authorities’ operations.

The violence spread to the Ocozocuautla-Las Choapas highway, which leads to Veracruz, where members of a criminal group set fire to a truck, a cargo vehicle, and at least seven cars. At another location, they also threw tire-punching guns.

For now, the Chiapas Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has not announced whether in-person classes will be suspended or continued in the aforementioned municipalities. Only the municipality of Cintalapa decided to suspend classes to keep students safe.

Unofficially, it is reported that the operations targeted members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a version that has not yet been corroborated by authorities; nor has there been any information regarding the arrest of an alleged criminal leader.

One of those unofficial versions suggests that it was a failed attempt to arrest Juan Manuel Valdovinos, alias “El Señor de los Caballos,” a criminal leader linked to the CJNG (CJNG), who maintains constant friction with factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartels.
