Two organized crime groups clashed in a shootout and set up roadblocks near the communities of Nuevo México and Cristóbal Obregón in Chiapas on Sunday, November 30.
The State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that “three vehicles were set on fire near the community of Nuevo México, in the municipality of Villaflores: a large truck, a pickup truck, and a sedan.”
The SSP stated that from the first report, it deployed immediate actions and a reinforced operational presence to protect the population, restore order, and prevent any further risks.
In addition, security personnel are conducting patrols, securing the area, checking access points, and coordinating directly with federal and municipal authorities.
“To date, no injuries or direct threats to the community have been reported, and the roads remain under constant surveillance,” the SSP said in its official statement.
He stated that “the competent authorities are already conducting the corresponding investigations to determine the origin of the events and identify those responsible.”
Meanwhile, the State Attorney General’s Office said it has opened an investigation into the events that occurred in the Nuevo México neighborhood of the municipality of Villaflores, where “two vehicles were set on fire by civilians.”
“A special team is in the area and we have made significant progress regarding the identity of the individuals who carried out these actions, who will face justice,” the Attorney General’s Office said.
“According to the initial investigations being conducted in the field, there was no confrontation or other damage, besides the burning of the vehicles,” it indicated.
The State Attorney General’s Office itself stated that its personnel, along with those from the National Defense, the National Guard, and the State Public Security Secretariat, are conducting a coordinated operation to locate the alleged perpetrators, as well as to guarantee security in the area.
Attorney General’s Office denies confrontations in Chiapas; Residents Share Videos
Although the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) denied that any clashes had occurred, videos on social media showed shootouts that lasted for several hours.
Residents reported that several kidnappings had already taken place in the area, involving a man and two women. Vehicle thefts and robberies of businesses have also been reported.
Today, although the information has not been confirmed, it was reported that people were found hanged in Cristóbal Obregón Park and two other people were found murdered with signs pinned to their chests with a knife. However, there is no evidence of this, and state authorities have not confirmed the incidents.
