Tourism is not recovering in San Cristóbal; hoteliers report low occupancy

Despite official pronouncements suggesting high tourist numbers, hoteliers in the city center are reporting low occupancy rates, painting a different picture for the sector.

According to a survey conducted in various hotels in the city center, most are not even reaching 50% occupancy, and some are registering much lower figures. Cases like the Hotel El Arrecife illustrate the situation, reporting less than 10% of rooms occupied, while other establishments are barely reaching 20%. Service providers indicated that this reality contrasts sharply with official reports of occupancy rates close to 90%, which has generated discontent within the sector.

Although some business owners are hopeful that visitor arrivals will improve in the coming days, they acknowledge that tourism activity has not met expectations, directly impacting the local economy. Tourism is one of San Cristóbal’s main economic drivers, so this low influx is causing concern among those who depend on this activity for their livelihood.
