The capital of Chiapas joins the global celebration with a program that ranges from paleontology to marimba music, promoting free admission and interactive learning at 11 iconic venues.
At least 11 museums in Tuxtla Gutiérrez will participate on May 18 in the celebration of International Museum Day, a cultural and educational event that will include exhibitions, workshops, guided tours, and artistic activities open to the general public.
The international theme is “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” promoted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), with the aim of reflecting on the role of these spaces in education, culture, and community building.
Representatives of the Tuxtla Museum Network indicated that this initiative seeks to strengthen the promotion of the city’s cultural spaces and encourage more citizens to regularly visit museums, considered living spaces for the preservation of memory, knowledge, and the cultural identity of Chiapas.
The director of the Casa de las Artesanías Institute, Marisol Urbina Matus, announced that the activities will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will bring together 11 museums from the Chiapas capital, including the following:
Regional Museum of Chiapas
Museum of Paleontology
Botanical Museum
Museum of the Marimba
Museum of the City
Planetarium
Museum of Handicrafts
In addition, the Chiapas College of Baccalaureate Studies will participate with cultural and artistic presentations. The organizers highlighted that each museum will set up interactive displays with representative pieces, workshops, and activities for students and families.
There will also be raffles for items related to the themes of each museum and free guided tours at the Museum of Handicrafts.
