San Cristóbal de Las Casas.- Dozens of people, including representatives of the South and North zones, organizations, groups and defenders of human rights, declared the Ciénega 5 de Marzo a sacred place, which began in the Navajuelos spring and they do it as part of the actions in defense of wetlands.

The pilgrimage-march started at 8 in the morning, where they made it clear that they will continue to take actions in defense of the wetlands, water, the environment and the nature reserves of San Cristóbal, to leave a good time to come to future generations and seek to mitigate climate change.

After concluding the pilgrimage, in Ciénega 5 de Marzo they proceeded to make a prayer, and then make the declaration of the sacred place, where they also installed an altar and finally had a cultural event.

Attendees complied with all sanitary measures, such as the use of face masks, antibacterial gel, and maintain a healthy distance.

“We are defending wetlands because we are aware that they represent 70 percent of the water in the city, that is why we make this declaration of a sacred place,” they concluded.
