Despite the third wave of infections by Covid-19, artisans in San Cristóbal maintain their online sales
San Cristóbal de Las Casas.- Jerónimo Ruiz López, Secretary of the Santo Domingo Handicraft Market and Caridad and Historical Monuments, considered that despite the third wave of Covid-19 infections, it has not affected them as sellers, since the online sales (online), since in craft markets where they are established if they have gone down and in the past holidays they did not do “at all well”.
Interviewed in this regard, he calculated that compared to other years, online sales remain between 60-70 percent, and that as long as the borders are not closed, they will be able to continue sending their products to the United States such as Michigan specifically, “and what the only one that they have limited us to send with products that contain feathers such as earrings, necklaces ”.
Within the Mexican Republic, he highlighted their products are sent to Mexico City, Michoacán, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, among others, and this is the way in which they can, in turn, continue to give work to women from the municipalities of the highlands of Chiapas, since they are the ones in charge of carrying out the embroidery work.
Ruiz López revealed that there are more than 100 handmade pieces that they send as blouses, clay products, shawls, shirts, among others, which they show to their clients through video calls or photographs shared by WhatsApp and Facebook.
Its products are sent to Mexico City, Michoacán, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, among others.
He invited the general population who has a gift for someone on their birthday, souvenirs for weddings, first communions, baptisms, among other celebrations, go to the markets of Santo Domingo and Caridad, where apart from selling the products by pieces, they also They offer them wholesale with some discounts depending on the quantity.
Finally, he indicated that the cost of their products has not suffered excessive increases, since they know from the situation that the population, in general, is going through, and this in order not to scare them away.
Ruiz López revealed that there are more than 100 artisan pieces that they send.
