Concession carriers in San Cristóbal de Las Casas have spoken out against the operation of two motorcycles working as public transportation in the city. These units, which are advertised as “Taxi-moto”, are circulating irregularly and have generated discomfort both among carriers and the general population, due to their lack of security and the absence of life insurance for users.
Representatives of 90 public transport concession organizations, including taxi, urban and combi units, as well as foreign transport that circulates from San Cristóbal to different municipalities in the region, have issued a statement against this piracy in the city.
According to them, it is a colonial city that should not allow the circulation of this type of vehicle, and they have called on the head of the Ministry of Mobility and Transportation in the state of Chiapas, Lic. Aquiles Espinoza García, to not to grant concessions to these units.
On his part, the owner of one of the motorcycles has reported that he offers his “Taxi-moto” services to any point in the city for a cost of 30 pesos per person and has invited the population to use his service. However, the concession carriers have made it clear that they will not allow the operation of these units in the city and will take measures to prevent their circulation.
Faced with this situation, the carriers stress that it is important that the transportation authorities take measures to regularize the public transportation service in San Cristóbal de Las Casas and guarantee the safety of users and the integrity of the concession carriers.
