The hotel sector of San Cristóbal de las Casas began to suffer the first effects after the cases of violence.
Hotel entrepreneurs from San Cristóbal de las Casas, in Chiapas, confirmed that they have already begun to feel the consequences of the security alert issued by the United States embassy, since they have received cancellations from tourists, according to María Moguel, president of the Association of Hotels and Motels in San Cristóbal.
The foregoing after the United States embassy in Mexico City raised the travel alert for the southern entity of the country to level 2, asking its compatriots to take greater precaution if they travel to the colonial city of Chiapas, as well and its surroundings due to crime.
“With all this, what happens is that the reservations that existed for months begin to be canceled, which have already been paid in some proportional part. People are scared with reason and begin to cancel it. It is not worth it, as long as we as hotel businessmen do everything possible so that tourism comes and returns, which has already left, our authorities fold their arms and do nothing,” he said.
Likewise, the representative of the hoteliers said that they are very unfortunate events because these types of cases scare away tourists and San Cristóbal lives on tourism, in addition, she commented that the sector does everything possible to promote the colonial city, since They invest money for that purpose.
“All this is not something from now, but it has been growing for many years like a snowball, because our authorities are stopping their arms. It is not from now, but today’s politics, with ‘hugs, not bullets’, gives permission to all organized crime and leaves us businessmen on the air,” she said.
It should be noted that, according to the security authorities, the city has already been controlled by elements of the Army, the National Guard, the State Preventive Police, and the Municipal Police of San Cristóbal de las Casas.
