San Cristóbal de las Casas.- More than 100 teachers belonging to the Regional Coordinator of the Highlands of Chiapas (CRACH) of the Indigenous Education Level (NEI) of Section 7 of the National Union of Workers of the Education (SNTE) carried out a road blockade in the section San Cristóbal-Tuxtla Gutiérrez, demanding the release of checks and the payment of salaries to interim teachers who owe them several months.

The highway blockade was installed at approximately 10:25 in the morning this Wednesday, and is located at kilometer 46 of the highway, affecting traffic and leaving numerous motorists stranded. The teachers demand the payment of the 13th, 14th and 15th quincenas, as well as retroactive and other benefits, which according to them, have been withheld without justification by the educational authorities.

The teachers’ representatives argue that more than 25,000 teachers in Chiapas are directly harmed in their economy due to debts and point out that this is the first time they have faced these anomalies by the Ministry of Education. Faced with this situation, they demand an end to the abuses and compliance with the corresponding payments, since they consider they have the right to receive their salaries in a timely manner.

During the blockade, the teachers reported that they will only allow the passage of ambulances and private vehicles that transport relatives who require urgent medical attention in hospitals in Tuxtla Gutiérrez or San Cristóbal de las Casas.

The motorists, for their part, expressed their disagreement with the long waits and asked the authorities for a prompt solution to the conflict with the teachers.
