San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas.- With joy and applause, the XXI International Cervantino Baroque Festival concluded this Sunday, October 15, which was held for four days in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
More than 10 thousand spectators attended the event in the various cultural forums, and where Chile was the guest country, within the framework of the 50 years of the coup d’état, represented with the documentary The Thousand Days of Allende, by filmmaker Nicolás Acuña.
The last day of activities ended with the concert by Carlos Cuevas (the king of bolero), and Aranza, held in the Main Forum. The fans did not stop being moved by the romanticism of the renowned singers and chanting songs, such as: Frenesí, Piel canela and México en la Piel. In addition, pianist Daniel Herrera, accompanied by Diomary (La mala), delighted the spectators with the song Lágrimas negra y Yolanda.
The JazzTendo ensemble, created with the intention of performing some video game songs, gave a concert at the Main Forum. There he showed his musical mastery and his versatility of interpretation with music from various musical genres, mainly jazz, attracting the attention of children and adults.
This broadcast took place from Thursday, October 12 to Sunday, October 15. Concerts, workshops and conversations, film screenings, street and shadow theater, dance, books, storytellers and oral narrations were presented, making approximately 62 free-entry activities, carried out by creators from Chiapas, Mexico City and Tabasco; and the countries of Cuba, Chile and Guatemala, which allowed healthy coexistence and a pleasant sensory experience.
Maritsa Concepción Maranto Zepeda, general director of the State Council for Cultures and the Arts of Chiapas (Coneculta), thanked the public for attending the call for culture and the arts, and for those who wait year after year for this festival that forms part of the Network of Pluricultural Artistic Festivals 2023, where cultural exchange, the appropriation of spaces and the promotion of cultural rights were generated.
“We have completed the XXI International Cervantino Baroque Festival, in the city of San Cristóbal, the first Festival of the Coneculta Festival Network, thanks to everyone. See you in 2024,” said the head of the Council.
In addition, she highlighted the commitment of Governor Rutilio Escandón Cadenas in making possible the broadcast of one of the most important festivals that the Chiapas entity has and that helps to make the cultural offer visible.
“San Cristóbal de Las Casas is the home of Cervantino. The city that celebrates and pays tribute to Miguel de Cervantes, considered one of the greatest figures of Spanish literature. The place that allowed us to learn about artistic expressions, as well as live them, inhabit them and share them, in order to promote cultural humanism,” highlighted the general director.
Likewise, she invited you to keep an eye on the programming of the 2023 Pluricultural Artistic Festival Network, as it will continue with the Zoque Chiapaneca Mayan Festival, in Chanal, from Thursday, October 19 to Saturday, October 21.
