Secretary of Security of Berriozábal, Chiapas is kidnapped and murdered

The Secretary of Security of Berriozábal, in the state of Chiapas, Germán Alegría Estrada, was found dead in Tuxtla Gutiérrez after his kidnapping was reported a day earlier.

His driver and the official’s private secretary were also murdered.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Chiapas (FGEC) opened an investigation file after the discovery of three bodies inside a BMW, type X4 vehicle in the Moctezuma neighborhood, although they did not reveal the identities. The report was received on Saturday, February 24.

“The FGE, through the Metropolitan District Prosecutor’s Office, began the corresponding investigations after the discovery of the lifeless bodies of three people inside a vehicle in the Moctezuma neighborhood of Tuxtla Gutiérrez,” the statement said.

The bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where a legal autopsy will be performed to determine the causes of death.

Through social networks, the Berriozábal City Council mourned the death of Germán Alegría Estrada, Rafael Martín Vázquez Pérez, and Uliser Gómez de la Cruz and published obituaries with condolences to the families of its collaborators.

Just on Friday, February 23, Germán Alegría Estrada was reported kidnapped along with his driver and his private secretary,  confirmed the State Prosecutor’s Office.

The Municipal Police of  Berriozábal reported the incident to the Prosecutor’s Office this Friday, February 23, so the agency deployed elements of the Interinstitutional Group to find the victims.

Despite President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stating the opposite, violence in Chiapas has increased.

According to data from the  Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, until November 2023, at least  457 intentional homicides occurred in Chiapas. These data represent an increase of 17% compared to 2022.
