Attack on a family leaves 3 dead and 3 injured in Pantelhó, Chiapas; minors among the victims

One of the alleged murderers was killed during the escape by members of the self-defense group “El Machete”

Three dead, including two minors, and three injured by gunfire was the result of an attack allegedly carried out by members of the group “Los Herrera” against a family from Pantelhó, security sources reported.

The events, they said, occurred around six o’clock in the morning this Tuesday in the town of La Piedad, when members of Los Herrera entered a home and attacked the family.

Inside the house, they shot and killed two minors and also injured three members of that family, among them the father Sebastián “N”, who was taken to the Gilberto Gómez Maza hospital in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

According to sources, the murdered children were identified as Francisco “N” of 17 years and Sebastián “N” of 10 years. The other two injured, also minors, were identified as Cristóbal N, 7, and Rosa N, 8 years old.

One of the alleged murderers was killed during the escape by members of “El Machete”, the self-defense group that has maintained control of Pantelhó since July 2021.

“El Machete” appeared on the public scene in the head town of Pantelhó, in the Altos de Chiapas region, three years ago.

The group entered with firearms in July 2021 and expelled “Los Herrera”, whom they consider hitmen and responsible for some murders, who held political control in the area.

The State Attorney General’s Office, through the Indigenous Justice Prosecutor’s Office, informed in the afternoon in a statement that it opened an investigation file against those responsible for the crimes of homicide committed against three people, including two minors.

In addition, another investigation for the crime of injuries against two people, one of them a minor.

The Indigenous Justice Prosecutor’s Office indicated that upon learning of the events on the morning of this March 12, agents of the Investigation Police, the public ministry, and experts arrived at the road section of the community “La Piedad al Porvenir” of Pantelhó.

There they found inside a home, the lifeless bodies with injuries, “apparently caused by firearms, of a 10-year-old boy and a 17-year-old teenager, both with protected identities, as well as a man who in life responded to the name of Luis “N”.

In addition, they found injured by gunfire Sebastián “N” and a two-year-old girl with a protected identity, who were transferred to a hospital in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

According to initial statements, on the night of March 11, “a group of people carrying firearms burst into the home of Sebastián “N”, firing shots against him and his children”

At the site, the Indigenous Prosecutor’s Office indicated, two firearms, loaded magazines, and a bladed weapon were secured.
