Also, Rene “N”, secretary of the Villaflores City Council, and María “N”, leader of the motorcycle taxi union, were arrested.
Another detainee was an element of the Investigative Police, all for the crimes of extortion.
Following various complaints from cattle ranchers and transporters about the operation of a corruption network and a gang dedicated to extortion, investigations were carried out and the aforementioned were arrested, said Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca.
During a joint conference with the Secretary of Public Security, they announced that, in the last 48 hours, 11 people were arrested, including a former police officer from the State Attorney General’s Office who headed this gang of extortionists who threatened all motorcycle taxi unions, demanding payments ranging from 150 to 200 pesos a week or else they would be deprived of their freedom or life.
Six searches were also carried out at various homes, where an arrest warrant was executed for the crime of extortion against René “N”, the acting Municipal Secretary of the Villaflores City Council, who allegedly was the one who summoned and extorted the offended parties, asking them to deposit the appeal and give it to María “N”.
Jorge Llaven stressed that this investigation is still open and that other people involved, including public servants, are being investigated. ” We will continue to determine the responsibilities of those who committed the crime of extortion.”
He explained that in Villa Corzo various searches were carried out on the properties of a municipal public servant; there, 26 municipal police officers were arrested, including the director of the Municipal Police, who has a criminal record after having been sentenced.
He was registered in the corporation with a different name; however, when the files and fingerprints were run, it was found that he had already been imprisoned and that he did not have the corresponding tests.
He said that many of them are being investigated for aggravated extortion and could face up to 30 years in prison. Municipal police officers who commit the crime of abusive exercise of functions could face up to 12 years in prison.
In turn, the Secretary of Public Security declared that 500 elements of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force, 200 elements of the State Attorney General’s Office, and there was also deployment of the National Guard and the Mexican Army. Two helicopters and an unmanned aircraft were deployed to Villaflores and Villa Corzo.
