The coordinator of the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Citizens’ Committee of Magical Towns, Alba María de Guadalupe Moguel Gómez, announced her resignation.
In a letter addressed to Morena Mayor Fabiola Ricci Diestel, she explained that she resigned “due to your lack of commitment and support for the development and growth of the Magical Town of San Cristóbal.”
She added: “Despite my efforts, I have not received any type of cooperation from you, which is necessary to perform my duties effectively.”
She referred in particular to “the exclusion of the San Cristóbal Citizens’ Committee of Magical Towns from important events, as well as the lack of response to our requests for meetings with you.”
Moguel Gómez explained that the organization she presided over honorarily includes the San Cristóbal Hotel Association, the National Chamber of Commerce, the Women Entrepreneurs Association, the Inn Association, and the Tourist Guide Association.
She said the organization seeks to “contribute to the development of San Cristóbal,” one of the 132 towns in the country, “which is a tourist destination” in Chiapas.
She noted that for the committee to carry out its work, it needs the support of the mayor, “but we don’t have it,” which is why she resigned effective August 1.
She reiterated that “there are things that need to be discussed with the president, such as the creation of competitions to paint murals alluding to the Magic Town; the Magic Town sign; the preservation of historical monuments, tourist and cultural attractions with sufficient visibility; a presence at the airport; and a module with maps and tourist information, but she never answers our questions.”
