San Cristóbal de Las Casas once again shone in an international spotlight. At the 16th edition of IBTM Americas 2025, held at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City, the Chiapas municipality showcased its cultural, culinary, and tourism services offerings with the aim of positioning itself as a strategic destination for meeting tourism.

The event brings together buyers from more than 20 countries and is considered one of the most important gatherings in Latin America in this sector. For San Cristóbal, participating means entering the competition to attract congresses, conventions, and forums that generate significant economic benefits.

Mayor Fabiola Ricci Diestel noted that the challenge is to show that the city has what it takes to become a center of excellence. “It is important to make Chiapas and San Cristóbal known nationally and internationally, because we will always welcome everyone with open arms,” she stated during her speech.

Ricci emphasized that coordinated work with local businesses will be key to ensuring that the economic benefits truly reach the population. He affirmed that his administration will seek to strengthen the promotion of the municipality as a destination where history, traditions, and hospitality converge.

For his part, Segundo Guillén Gordillo, of the Chiapas Tourism Secretariat, defined San Cristóbal as “the state’s tourist epicenter” and asserted that these types of showcases help convince event organizers that Chiapas is an ideal place not only for vacations but also for meeting tourism.
