The mayor of Suchiate, Chiapas, Elmer Vázquez Gallardo, a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, reported that he was the victim of an extortion attempt over a private video that was recently shared on social media.

In a statement, the mayor explained that he was asked for a large sum of money to keep the recording public, but that he refused to give in to the blackmail.

It’s “a video from a few years ago when I represented my community at an event,” he explained.

Vázquez Gallardo maintained that he has never hidden his sexual preferences and expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received after the video’s malicious dissemination.

“I have never deceived anyone. I am the only naive person registered with the Chiapas IEPC as LGBTIQ+ at the time. And that’s why I didn’t believe those malicious intentions,” he reiterated in the official report.

He added that he has a personal and intimate life, but he is also a professional and entrepreneur. Furthermore, through a foundation named after his mother, he has always helped the people of Suchiate, and he donates 100 percent of his salary to social initiatives.

“My gender does not limit me, nor does it prevent me from being President, but above all, from being your friend.” “Let discrimination and confrontation not divide us,” he stated.
