The 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Chiapas last Friday caused infrastructure damage in 17 municipalities, according to updated information from the Monitoring Center of the State Civil Protection Secretariat.
The State Civil Protection System reported that the municipalities of Cacahoatán, Suchiate, Tapachula, Chiapa de Corzo, Tecpatán, Villaflores, Montecristo de Guerrero, Huixtla, Bella Vista, and Chicomuselo were affected.
The earthquake damaged 389 houses, 22 of which were rendered uninhabitable and one collapsed. In the health sector, three hospitals and one medical unit were affected.
There was also damage in Health Jurisdiction No. VIII, involving two health centers and two IMSS-Bienestar (Mexican Social Security Institute – Welfare) units.
The earthquake affected 25 schools and 25 other public buildings in various municipalities.
Government agencies are attending to the affected areas and conducting physical assessments of buildings to ensure the safety of the population.
