Complaints against a group of National Guard members continue to mount in Comitán. Motorists claim that the checkpoints set up near La Floresta, on the Comitán-Teopisca highway, have become a place where officers look for any pretext to extort money from drivers.
In the most recent case, a family reported being stopped by officers in patrol car 21286, who initially cited speeding and factory-tinted windows as the reason for the stop. According to the family, when they refused to pay and began recording the incident, the officers changed the reason for the infraction and ultimately fined them for failing to slow down over a speed bump.
Citizens assert that the officers in question have already been identified through multiple complaints and demand that the appropriate authorities investigate these incidents and, if confirmed, punish those responsible to prevent further abuses against the public.
