In a message on her Twitter account, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum reported that the Mexican Navy recommends staying away from beaches in Chiapas and Tabasco for the next six hours due to the risk of tsunamis.
“It is important to follow the recommendations of Civil Protection,” she emphasized.
She added that after the 7.4 magnitude earthquake southwest of Huixtla and the tremors recorded in Ciudad Hidalgo, she spoke with the governors of Chiapas and Tabasco, states that have not reported any damage so far.
She also said that protocols are being activated in neighboring states.
Authorities from all three levels of government are conducting tours of the affected areas to assess potential structural damage and coordinate preventative measures. We will continue to provide updates.
