The highway sections that had been blocked by members of the National Front of Struggle for Socialism (FNLS) in the municipalities of Altamirano-Ocosingo and San Cristóbal de Las Casas, have been released this Saturday afternoon. However, the protesters have threatened to take further action on Saturday night and early Sunday to continue demanding the release of Daniel Gómez Sántiz.

The paramilitary group “Los Petules” detained Daniel a week ago, and his state of health remains unknown. It is presumed that he is being held in the community of El Nacimiento, municipality of Ocosingo.

The roadblocks that were installed in the towns of Río Florido, Cuxuljá and Las Perlas, both in Ocosingo and Altamirano, have been removed after 3:00 p.m. yesterday, but the protesters have left a pine tree lying on the road blocking a lane.

The carriers that travel through these roads have indicated that the road is totally free, but they have asked that precautions be taken due to the tree lying near the town of Cuxulja.

The FNLS has demanded that the competent authorities seek a solution or sit down to talk with the paramilitary group to demand Daniel’s release. Otherwise, they have stated that the protests will continue.

Meanwhile, the units detained in Ejido Río Florido continue to be detained, and the cars that circulate on the highway have asked that vehicles from national companies not to transit there because they could be detained.
