The Ministry of Health reported that six cases of screwworm infection have been confirmed: four women and two men.

These cases are located in Chiapas (Mapastepec, Huixtla, Tapachula, and Escuintla) and Campeche (Candelaria).

Four of them have been discharged due to improvement, thanks to the medical care and treatment provided.

Another person is stable and receiving outpatient treatment, and the sixth person is hospitalized (a 74-year-old man).

Four of the six infected people had head myiasis, and one had musculoskeletal involvement.

The youngest infected person is 44 years old, and the oldest is 86.

However, the Ssa has not recorded the case of a 40-year-old man, originally from the municipality of Mapastepec, Chiapas, who was admitted to the Ciudad Salud Regional High Specialty Hospital in Tapachula last Saturday after being diagnosed with a parasitic infestation caused by larvae of the cattle screwworm (GBG).
