In the last eight months, more than 400 municipal and state police officers have been arrested in Chiapas for their alleged involvement in various crimes, as part of efforts to restore security and public trust in institutions. This was announced by State Security Secretary Óscar Aparicio Avendaño.
The operations are part of the “Zero Corruption” and “Zero Impunity” programs, which seek to cleanse police forces and ensure transparency in their actions. The official emphasized that elite groups such as the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force, created to combat organized crime, have even been intervened, removing those who break the law.
“This demonstrates transparency, a firm hand, and the commitment of Governor Eduardo Ramírez. We will not allow these forces to be corrupted,” Aparicio Avendaño stated in an interview. He added that, although many complaints on social media are unfounded, when solid evidence exists, action is taken immediately.
The head of the Security Secretariat highlighted the key role of the Pakal Force, along with the State Guard and other agencies, in restoring peace in the state. However, he warned that trust and certification checks will continue to ensure the integrity of officers.
“We have even detained commanders, and we will continue to do so without tolerance. Anyone who commits irregularities will be brought before the authorities,” he emphasized.
Finally, he expressed confidence that the recently inaugurated Public Security University of the Southeast will contribute to professionalizing police forces with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, thus strengthening the security strategy in the region.
