In eight months, more than 400 municipal and state police officers linked to various crimes have been arrested in Chiapas as part of efforts to restore order and peace in the state, reported State Security Secretary Óscar Aparicio Avendaño.
The cleanup operations within the police forces are part of the “Zero Corruption” and “Zero Impunity” programs to restore public confidence in the institutions, the official explained.
He even emphasized that a firm hand has been applied within the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force—an elite group created to combat organized crime—to remove those who break the law.
“That speaks of transparency, that speaks of a firm hand, and of the Governor’s (Eduardo Ramírez’s) commitment and political will. We have not allowed these types of forces to be corrupted,” he stated in an interview.
He added that many complaints circulating on social media against police officers are unfounded, but when they have been substantiated, action has been taken immediately.
“The results speak for themselves. The Pakal Immediate Reaction Force is a corporation that has given its all to Chiapas, that has shown its mettle, and is largely responsible for the return of peace to Chiapas, along with the State Guard and other corporations that are part of the Secretariat of People’s Security,” boasted Aparicio Avendaño.
The head of the SSP said that trust and certification checks will be regularly applied to ensure the integrity of all local police forces.
“We have arrested commanders, and we will continue to act accordingly. Anyone who makes a mistake will be immediately brought before the authorities,” he emphasized.
Finally, he expressed confidence that the recently inaugurated Public Security University of the Southeast will provide more tools and better-trained officers through four bachelor’s degrees, four master’s degrees, and four doctoral degrees.
